Traditional digital comic / PDF
Make page-format comics, export a readable PDF and sample pages. Offer a free preview, then sell a PDF when ready through a platform that permits your content.

Start with finished story pages and free distribution. Validate real reader interest, then compare individual print orders against a bulk run funded by backers. The platforms below remain independently operated; Loriginary does not print, sell or distribute books itself.

Recompose panels for scrolling phones. Build readership through regular releases, then link permitted reader destinations to Kickstarter previews. Terms, format and AI-content policies must be checked before upload.
Upload the PDF or chapter as a comic project. Choose a free download, suggested donation, or a paid minimum. Itch.io says project pages can be created at no cost; payment processing and applicable seller charges still matter. Accurately tag any generative-AI use.
Publish preview panels, story updates and email signups on your own domain. You control placement and audience access; hosting and payment services may still have costs.
Order one proof instead of a print run. Ka-Blam accepts single-copy comics; compare the current quote including shipping and any optional ad discount before making promises.
IndyPlanet, linked to Ka-Blam, can fulfill individual comic orders from readers. Check listing rules, printing costs, proofing and royalties instead of assuming every sale is profitable.
Finish the pages, collect prelaunch interest, seek several quotes and use pledged funding to produce a modest run with conservative shipping and fee reserves. Digital-only rewards reduce early financial exposure.
No published minimum quantity. A printer-provided back-cover advertisement can reduce printing costs. It is an optional advertising discount, not a rule requiring every comic to display Ka-Blam's website. The vendor can refuse to buy that ad space and adjust the quote.
The printer's current example is a 24-page full-color comic at $3.15 per copy with its ad discount, excluding any applicable postage and variation in specifications. Get a fresh quote before using it in a campaign.
Check Ka-Blam pricing ↗A Ka-Blam-related storefront where buyers can order eligible creator comics individually. The published listing workflow indicates that the printing cost is deducted from your chosen retail price. Confirm payout rules, pricing and whether you have to order a sample before listing.
Keep the cover price above the undiscounted production cost and remember that a discounted back-cover ad may mean a different print edition.
Explore IndyPlanet ↗Write, letter and export a complete readable preview. If your comic uses AI-generated material, check the current platform's policies and Kickstarter disclosure rules.
Post progress, publish approved samples, share real behind-the-scenes process, and gather voluntary email followers. Audience comes before the campaign, not magically afterward.
Start with a PDF tier and perhaps one standard paperback. Price the print, postage, packaging, tax and processing; avoid oversized perks and too many variants.
If a sample is unaffordable, do not promise an untested finish or exact arrival date. Ask suppliers for proofs and exact specs before final production.
All-or-nothing funding means no payout from an unsuccessful campaign. Show clear schedule, risks, human work and AI contribution disclosures, and give consistent backer updates.
This calculator assumes one reward contains one comic. Enter your actual vendor quote, postage, packaging, platform and processing estimates. Add taxes or other costs to the extras field. The sample 10% fee reserve below is a planning placeholder, not a current Kickstarter fee quotation. The conservative safety check adds contingency costs and any shipping amount collected from backers. Neither calculation is a binding printer quote.
Estimates are not a commitment, including taxes, lost packages, changes to rates or royalties.
Kickstarter's July 2026 publication reports code KICKSTARTERCOMICS for 5% off an eligible comic, manga or graphic novel order, once per customer, supported US/UK/CA/AU/DE regions, through January 1, 2027.
Choose the printer ad if the reduction is worth losing that cover space. It is not automatically included and cannot be guaranteed. Confirm print layout and final quote.
